Nearness of Years

Nearness of Years

The mem'ry of that first, that lovers' hold,
From thought to feeling turns, as years grow long.
Your warm embrace, a mantle for my soul,
A verdant vine, encompassing and strong,
In constant blossom still, despite the storm,
And ever near, despite the space apart.
This, your embrace, still grows, and comes to form
A deepening relief upon my heart.

A willing and a grateful host, I stand,
As your sweet closeness on my soul attends,
Yet yearning to be once more hand-in-hand,
Though still our bond the space between transcends.

The distance 'twixt us, vast as it appears,
It can't diminish nearness won by years.
